Default Remakes of Logan's Run and Producers on the way

During the last couple of days doing searches on IMDB.com for other stuff, I came across a couple of interesting remakes that are slotted to come out over the next year or so, and thought I'd share:

Producers 2005

I actually like the cast, with Broderick and Lane in the leads. I've always had a thing for Kidman too. I don't know anything about the director, it seems she has been a choreographer before, but I didn't find any references to her as a director except for a made for TV musical that I haven't seen.

The second and far more interesting to me is:

Logan's Run 2005

Not much info on it, other than Bryan Singer is the slated director, which to me is a good thing. Here's the blurb:

Quote:
A young man at odds with his society's mandatory death sentence for all those turning 21 plots a daring escape on the eve of his fateful birthday.
I like that the age of death has been returned to the book age of 21. I'm hoping the part about a "young man at odds" is just based on ignorance rather than the actual plot (the original book and movie featured Logan as undercover cop, trying to infilitrate a group of people who attempted to escape the "renewal" process).

Anyone else interested, disappointed, or disgusted by the thought of remaking either or both films? I fall under the category of interested for both. Any body have more info on either?

Will probably see the producers, as I didn't have the opportunity to see Lane/ Broderick in the lead roles on stage. I like both performers, and they seem perfect for the roles to me.

Not sure about Will Farrell as Franz Liebkind, but then I'm not really a Will Farrell fan. Seems to fall to readily into the Saturday-Night-Live-later-years trap of "Why be funny when you can be weird and irritating?" (q.v. Adam Sandler, Chris Kattan, and others). Still, he's probably a good match for Ken Mars in that regard, and doesn't have that much screen (or stage) time.

Presumably, this will be an adaptation of the Broadway show and not a remake of the 1968 film. Anyone know any key differences between them?

The Producers film will be a film of the musical, which has a slightly different plot and a lot more songs. The director, Susan Stroman, is one of the hottest choreographer/directors in theater, and the director and choreographer of the stage version; Contact was her breakthrough show a few years back. You can get a more complete list of her shows at ibdb.com

I haven't seen the musical, but I've been told that it has a happy ending tacked on which takes place after the end of the film.

I'll pass on the producers as I am perfectly satisfied with the original.

Logan's Run peaks my interest though. I believe the original had Logan's age artificially advanced for his investigation and so he became slated for "rebirth" sooner than he should have. The last time I saw Logan's Run on TV it was such a bad film that you could actually see the guy wires on those who were being transported in the rebirth ritual.

I wonder if Farrah Fawcett will make another cameo appearance .

The original was beyond horrible. It came to theatres when I was a kid, and I liked it. When I saw it again as an adult, I was horrified that I didn't hate it originally. It was immeasurably bad, and yet so popular....
Chalk it up to the '70's, I guess.
I don't understand why they're remaking it. What's next, a remake of Barbarella?

But it had Jenny Agutter in it - how could it be bad..?

I've fancied her ever since The Railway Children

You are correct about the artificial increase in Logan's age. None of the runner gangs would have believed he would be running if his palm wasn't blinking red.

I found the DVD of the original a few years back for about $10.00. The effects are awful, but I still enjoy it. The book was much more interesting and more perverse. It also reverses the chapter order--starting on chapter 10 and ending on chapter one (I'm not sure if the numbers are correct, it's been a while since I've read the book).

I remember the ads playing up Farrah Fawcett's role in the movie. Anyone who saw it just for her would have surely felt like he was being ripped off Although, I thought Jenny Agutter was and is more attractive.

Chapka--thanks for the info on Ms. Stroman.

I try to enjoy "B" movies for what they are. Logan's Run was a "B" movie that I hope will be done with the basic storyline intact but much better directing and visuals.

Now, Barbarella is a different story! I am one who abhores Jane Fonda because of her outspoken personal opinions but she was great as Barbarella. Whenever I am in the mood for sheer schlock sci-fi fantasy I put on either Barbarella or Flash Gordon and am transported into complete "B" ridiculousnes heaven for a couple of hours.

Back to Logan's Run. I would like to see it done more in the style of BladeRunner.
