Is anyone a member of www.straightdope.com?

It is a fairly interesting board, but some of the people post some highly annoying crap, stuff that I do not see on any other board but theirs. It is not so much that one person gets inventive, but when many people do it, it's just a lack of original thought. When I see the following, I quit reading the post.

1.) They call themselves "dopers".

2.) Instead of saying "oh my God (or god)" they say "Oh my OG", or "Thank OG" They also like to say Jeebus for Jesus. Granted these people might be athiests or agnostics, but does that give them the right to insult the dieties that the rest of us believe?

3.) They refer to collegues they don't like at their workplaces as cow-orkers.

4.) They use a period after each word to emphaisize a comment. As in
I. Am. So. Mad. To me, That. Is. So. Stupid.

5.) Saying Whiskey Tango Foxtrot for WTF (which stands for What the f**k)

This message board now charges a fee, but the Moderators there love to ban people, mainly over petty bullshit. This is a big subject with the long termers. They even go so far as to ban you from even looking at their boards. I don't know why I read that board, I just reconnect to the pettiness of the human condition when I read it, so I do. It's like watching a car wreck.

Does anyone else beside me look at their board?

Idiosyncrasies notwithstanding, I think it's a very nice place filled with smart people (smarter than me anyway). If you don't like it over there, don't go there anymore, but bringing your complaints to this board accomplishes what exactly?

Exactly! It's like slowing down to rubberneck...except the train wreckers are often fairly brilliant people, so it's on the witty side...and nobody really gets hurt.

I think the question is whether that particular message board is of such quality as to charge a $15 yearly fee.

I've known the Dope for a long time, and I personally think the quality and knowledge of the posts here are way higher than there.

I hope you guys don't start charging now.
