Outside Pittsburgh, they are proclaiming a strike, taking to Twitter and Facebook to spread the word. In a village near Milwaukee, hundreds staged a boycott. In a small farming and ranching community in western Kansas, they have produced a parody video. And in Parsippany, N.J., the protest is six days old and counting. They are high school students, and their complaint is about lunch — healthier, smaller and more expensive than ever. |

I live in a village near Milwaukee (no, not THAT one, thank goodness) and we just phased in the new healthier lunch standards, and they're pretty awesome. On taste and selection, the kids like them. Our school district involved parents and students heavily in crafting the new menus, and we haven't had trouble. In fact the kids seem happy with the new plans.
Of course the students in the right-wingiest of suburbs are having an issue with this. They're being told it's "liberal" and "socialist" and "Obama-eats." I kid you not, but one relative who lives in one of the ultra-right suburbs even complained that the schools have to serve "monkey food" in reference to the Obamas' ethnicity. I guarantee you the kids' problem in the referenced articles isn't as much the food as it is just a chance to join up with the Republican Umbrage Brigade (Junior Edition.) |

These kids are the future, so now I'm picturing Americans walking around making baby sounds all the time in ten years. Just communicating with a mix of long and short baby-babble words, like Morse code.
Here, this is actual footage sent back in time: Quote:

Don't they grow subsidized corn and wheat for high fructose corn syrup and refined bleached white flour, rather than a variety of healthy produce?

the OP is no different to what happened in the UK when Jamie Oliver tried to introduce healtheir school meals.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFkAszCA9dI he brings in nicely prepared meals and the kids and parents start complaining and asking when he is going to bring back 'proper food' like chips and burgers. |
