OK, hjalti, send me a private message if you have any more follow-up questions on the topic.

She has discussed conversations that she had on this forum in her own forum. Nobody has pretended to be Acharya S in this forum.

And THAT is the problem with Acharya S.- she seems completely uncritical of sources that appear to support her position, and rabidly dismissive of sources that contradict it.

I read the Christ Conspiracy awhile back, and afterward had the fascinating experience of trading comments with some of her adherents (dare I call them acolytes?) over the course of a year or so. They all remind me of Dave: vociferous, unyielding and almost frantic in their support.
They probably WERE Dave. He posts under a number of names.

It smacks of religion.
Dave31 has a big presence on the web, and he more often goes by the name "freethinkuluva" or something like that. He is Acharya S's right-hand man, and odds are that your rhetorical run-in was with him. He is also the most aggressive and extreme within Acharya S's circle of fans, so I caution you against judging Acharya S's fans based too much on him. All of the rest of them are more moderated and civil.

The guy (or... ahem... woman?) with whom I had such an illuminating discussion about Acharya S.' level of scholarship called himself Charles Johnson. His online profile does seem uncannily Acharya-centric, so perhaps it was indeed created for the sole purpose of singing her praises.

I realize, of course, that not all fans of Acharya will be as apoplectic as one might assume after having run afoul of her most rabid adherent, but thanks for the cautionary note just the same. :Cheeky:

Shoot, I think they are not the same person. I knew that the fan base of Acharya S smacked of a dangerous cult, but it may be even more so than I thought.

Toto, Dr. Price sent me back an email. He said:
Abe,

I am concerned only with Acharya's NT work, which I think is fascinating and well worth consideration. Whatever else she may believe is of no interest to me. Does that make any sense?

Bob

Price has stated that all ideas deserve consideration, even if the person who made them is otherwise not credible.
