Alas, as far as I know, Darwin was never knighted.

I read that genetic testing showed that Harriet almost certainly came from Santa Cruz (one of the islands the Beagle didn't nab a tortoise from).

No one really knows how old these bastards get. There was a (Aldabran) tortoise in an Indian zoo claimed to be 255, but I don't think they could back that up. There was a 188 or so yr old given to the Tongan Royal family by Captain Cook of Yorkshire. That's the oldest properly recorded individual of the kingdom they call animalia.

I can't help thinking that she had another 70 years of life left in her.

That sight of that idiot Irwin waking you up with a cheery "Woo-hoooh!! Look at li'l sleepy-head here. WOOOO! How're ye doin' babe? etc etc" would diminsih my own will to live much longer.

This heart attack wasn't brought on by being dangled over a croc enclosure, was it? He can't do it to his kids any longer, you know.

176 years old!!!!!

LOL.

WAKE up, people!!!!

How could they know that it was 176 years old? Look at the reasoning:

A year is the time that it takes the Earth to complete one orbit of the sun. The disciples of the Cultish Church of Darwin will then tell you that each year crossed of the calendar corresponds to an orbit of the sun, but how is each year of the calendar defined? Yes - by linking it to orbits of the sun.

THAT'S Circular reasoning!!!!!

WAKE UP!!!!!!!

Dating this tortoise by other means will also give an age of 176 years - according to the one holy gospel of Darwinism. LOL!!!!

The tortoise was separately dated by reference to the rocks near it, which were... go on, give a guess... conveniently 176 years old.

This is CIRCULAR REASONING, folks!

If you could all WAKE UP and stop worshiping at the altar of Darwinism in the Church of Darwin, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the one holy and apostolic Darwin-Cultism, you'd see that you're all circular reasoning.

WAKE UP!!!!!!

LOL.

According to aboutdarwin.com:

Lord Palmerston proposed to Queen Victoria that Charles Darwin should be conferred a knighthood. The proposal was abandoned, however, when Bishop Wilberforce intervened to stop the idea.
Bloody theists.

OT to the subject of Harriet's demise, but relevant to many discussions in this forum and from the same page I linked to, above:
Quote:
1860 April
The term "Darwinism" was coined by Thomas Huxley in the Westminster Journal.
I guess it's our label after all ... <SIGH>
