The first time I encountered Gouda cheese, I was told that the pronunciation was "hoo'dah".

But everyone else around me pronounces it as "goo'dah".

Today I decided to look it up, and found a .wav file with the pronunciation. (Apparently the sound is closer to "hud'dah")

I think I'll stick to cheddar from now on.

Actually, it's "gowda".

But how do you guys say "February?" I say feb-ru-ary (demphasizing the first "r" a little bit).

I've always said "Feb-you-ary," but I think I'm wrong.

Synthesis. Lecithin. Or is it lethicin? When I get through with it, they are thynthethith and lethithin... even though I don't lisp on words that do not switch between s's and th's.

I learned many words incorrectly, and have a hard time making myself say them right. Including nuke-ya-lur.

All chemical names will be pronounced with a nasty redneck accent for the first week.

The dumbass anchor on my local dumbass news just pronounced microbial as MY-crow-BY-all. Dumbass. He reminds me of Ted on the MTM show.

Words I have no idea if I'm pronouncing them correctly:Trientalis, Lysichiton, Hydrophyllum tenuipes, wormskjoldii, Chamaecyparus, all native plants.

I also have no idea how to pronounce the name of a local tribe, Kwakwa'ka,wakw, but it's fun to try.

Geoduck is pronounced gooeyduck.

You can tell when someone is not from around here when they mispronounce Puyallup.
