I'll have to check for exact people's, but some tribes in either Amazon or Africa (I think the former) find the idea alien. I find the idea strange, too. Am I neurologically defunct then?
Oh dear, I knew in my bones I was running a risk with that post. Please read the exact words I used again and yes, I did not reference a specific alternative to the sub-terranean interpretation also frequently encountered.

I am quite sure -- absolutely convinced -- that if I say women are shorter than men that you can find a woman taller than a man to disprove my assertion.

I might fall over and concede defeat, but the only problem with that is that you will have to approach ALL those who pronounce the same truism and somewhere along the line you will have to finally concede that the discovery of one tribe in Amazon or Africa where ALL women are taller than men will have its own idiosyncratic explanation nonetheless.

As long as you say on average, or at least imply it, it shouldn't be a problem.

The thing is, there aren't, at least to my knowledge, any tribe or culture where the women are on average taller than men. We're safe with that genetic information.
