You almost had me there, Cynic.

My problem is that, try as I might to find another alternative, nothing seems to express my disgust and anger quite as well as Jesus H Fucking Christ! Perhaps it's my xtian background, perhaps it's knowledge of the shock value, I don't know. Purple penguin piss just doesn't do it.

It's the shock value - knowing that the words are held to a standard of elevated meaning. And, you are perpetuating that meaning.

Do you have any evidence that this is true, or is it merely your opinion?

You are entering into the world of "supernatural," something, I do not understand, as well, as you. If you understand the perpetuation of theism as anything other than communication of an idea amongst human beings, then you need to provide proof of that possibility.

You, theists, crack me up with your false arguments.

Ummm, I didn't make an argument.

You claimed that the use of the word "god" in a non-religious context reinforced the religious meaning of the term and perpetuated the keeping of the faith.

I asked you if you had any support for your claim.

Can you cite any research you have done, or perhaps a psychological study? If not, then so you admit that this is simply your opinion?

And I am not a theist. Are you?

Yeah, sure, Richard Dawkins theory of memes. Read the book, "The Selfish Gene."

Why do you want to get all scientific about it? You do not believe in the power of words (rhetoric)?

Was this aimed at me? I didn't realize that by asking for you to support your claim I was "getting all scientific".

Rhetoric has power over people who don't know any better. Those who do know better ask for more.

I assume your post means that no, you don't have any support for your claim. And that's fine. There's nothing wrong with opinions, as long as they're presented as such. (btw, that last sentence is my opinion)

Didn't you come here to preach to the heathens? Missionaries used to get tortured and eaten, so don't take it to heart.
Were missionaries allowed to have B&D and oral?

Words and rhetoric have power only if they are not ignored.

Words ignored have the same effect as words unspoken.
