I thought smear tactics were the realm of the old DSS juggernaughts. And if anything was unfounded it was their response to Golb senior.

If you want to get into bed with these people, Jeffrey, you don't need to come here to parade such iniquities. But if you want to make accusations about the worth of the Charles Gadda posts, it would be better to get down to brass tacks. Waffling on in such a generalizing way will not give you any credibility points.

yes, because it has been demonstrated that we all can play nice with one another. it's more of a mutual respect thing.

but, if someone is communicating with another, who happens to have an order of protection barring all communication, including electronic communication, including pseudonymous communication, then communicating with that person on frdb would be a violation of the order of protection. that would place the barred communicator (and potentially those administrators that allowed the communication) in jeopardy.

and we don't want to see anyone violate the terms of their bail. that would be sad.

You might have a thing for dancing with strangers, but I do have better things to do at the moment. If you want to talk about old DSS juggernauts, which would be the usual reason why one cites a statement dealing with such, you should do so and avoid tangents like this one. Your crypto-legal veils only invite :wave:. Why not be good and get back to more sensible endeavors? The amount of time you have apparently wasted on Charles Gadda could have been employed so much more fruitfully, for example in pursuit of fertile sleep.

Default louise s segal

re: ms. segal,

we should not be quick to accuse ms. segal of being yet another sock puppet of raphael golb. for all that we know, this may be a defense tactic. the defense could, theoretically, get some schmo to create a new account, post ambiguous 'copycat' messages not unlike those of our old friend 'charles gadda,' and then wait for someone to accuse ms. segal of being raphael golb. then, in court, the defense could claim, 'see how easy it is to falsely accuse someone of being raphael golb?'

it could also be some friendly new blogger who has discovered this lovely piece of cyberspace and has taken an interest in the golb case. if so, welcome.

as for me, i'm willing to give this next round of new aliases like 'dead_sea_troll' and 'rich cohen' the benefit of the doubt. there is no reason to believe they are raphael golb. one should not rush to conclusions, but rather rely on verifiable evidence to demonstrate that 'charles gadda' is raphael golb. verified evidence can be found here. or, if you are not convinced, you can take raphael golb's father, dr. norman golb's word for it.

the father reportedly admitted raphael golb is gadda. thanx dad!!

Au contraire, mon cher. Sleep is a gift... after the hardy exertions of the day, the open arms of sleep are a happy peace. ><

Oh, sad, sad, sad. That's like getting them to do all those other pleasurable things in life. Let the bots enjoy the meal or the kiss. Sure.

But then there are many other things to do. Sleep was just one of the important ones.

I discover all sorts of people working on the things I do. It's no loss to me. I hope they enjoy.

Default On academic politics, as practiced at New York University

Professor (and rabbi) Tzvee Zahavy has posted a statement on this case, from which I quote:

Quote:
Raphael Golb... is not guilty of any crime or tort... If the professor suffered a loss due to Golb's actions he has recourse in the civil courts. If he did not suffer a tangible loss, then he was the victim of a strange vendetta, not of identity theft or harassment.
Beyond the core assertion (which seems significant, coming as it does from a scholar of Jewish law who has taught in many universities), what I found most interesting was a piece of information added at the end, apparently the day after the initial publication of the statement:

Quote:
Professor Schiffman called us today (11-10) to explain to us how wrong we are and how uninformed about the case we are. He went on and on. We thanked him for his call and wished him a good day.
I leave it to others to comment (or not) on the implications of this statement and the phone call reported in it.

Default update from fitter

thanx for the update, fitter. and welcome to frdb.

would you like to discuss the case with me? since you're new, perhaps you need to be filled in on the history of this whole mess? ;-)

If the allegations are true in Schiffman's regard then I'd think he has every right to be pissed. In this respect Zahavy's comments on it seem supercilious. I'd guess Zahavy would be taking a different tack if it were he who was accused of similar wrongdoings.
