With all due respect, and I sincerely mean no insult, I think that whoever is asking this question either:

1- Is sincerely puzzled and doesn't know the history behind it, OR
2- Already has one of them poetic answers, and this is the kind of mentality that attributes everything to God because any scientific explanation would remove the cool mystery element.


No, They do not hate us just because we are free or cool or because we have a democracy. Iceland has a democracy. Why didn't they attack Iceland?

All of Bush's poetic answers are rather naive. It's just dumb to say, "They attacked us because they are evil," as if the terrorists woke up one day and said to themselves, "I am evil, and Americans are admittedly good. So normally, I need to do evil things to them. Let's get to work!!"


But the problem with our current administration is that whenever someone tried to THINK of why the terrorists attack, the answer is always ready: "HEY!! THERE IS NO MORAL EQUIVALENCY!!"

Why do most people insist on equatnig CAUSE with JUSTIFICATION? ??? Just because someone is trying to find an objective cause for the problem, empty of prejudice and patriotic poetry, does NOT mean that one is actually "justifying" it. There is a huge difference.

And remember: For every American who is sincerely "puzzled" over why Muslims "hate us", there is currently a Muslim that is sincerely "puzzled" over why we "hate them".

Unfortunately, they are both never satisfied with any actual historical political reasons, because they prefer to hear, "Because we are good, and they are evil. Because we are better than them. Because they are jealous of our apparent moral superiority."
