JW:
Ya know Spiderman has been playing a lot here lately. I keep thinking of Peter repeating to himself, "Am I not supposed to have a life?" and than remembering what his Uncle said, "With great power comes great responsibility."

Your Historical Commentary on "Mark" is part of the Skeptical effort now and is needed to keep moving Doubt forward. If you leave it you'll be sorry. Maybe not today and maybe not tomorrow. But soon and for the rest of your life.

Here's looking at your Index kid.

Take a break, and come back soon! IIDB will be the poorer without you.

Regards,
Don

Cool

Vorkosigan's name came up in an old thread of mine that asked for the names of the best debaters on IIDB. This place will be poorer without Vorko.

And sorry for calling you Volkswagen in the past. I deliberately change people's names when they hit 10K posts. Like I said before, at least I don't call you Pretzel.

Anyway GL HF with life

I completely agree with what Don said and how often is that going to happen?

Please consider it as just a break but take as long as you need.

Hi Michael,

You have so much knowledge and interesting insights that will be missed. Take care, and my hope is that you will find what you feel you need.

Hi Ted. I know I'm not your favorite person here, but I hope you don't mind a few comments. There probably is such literature, but IMO addiction is just a word to describe a condition of obsessive or time-consuming behavior which can result in a less balanced, happier life, and that it applies to behavior of all kinds, drugs only being one of them, and that the basic road to recovery is the same regardless of the behavior. The exact definition isn't nearly as critical as recognizing a need for a change. I believe that at times I have been 'borderline addicted' here, and have found that 'abstaining completely' from the site for a while does help me regain a better perspective on life. That may or may not be the case for Michael, but I know we share in wishing him well.

For anyone interested in a book about overcoming addictions of all kinds, I think 7 Tools to Beat Addiction, by Stanton Peele is excellent.

Wow, this was completey unexpected to me. Apparently I know nothing of the events you mentioned. But I second all the above sentiments.

I'm a long-time admirer of your posts, Vork, and the careful effort you put in to their composition. I only ever detected disdain when it was thoroughly deserved.

You'll be missed.

Sounds like you were just starting to be incontravertably human ...a hard task over the internet.

See! I told you: human.

Apologies won't be accepted unless accompanied by a decent bottle of rum -- you might consider a few drinkers' snacks as well. That'll make up for any insufficiencies. Until then, go out and get whacked. Do not, I repeat, do not try to pull yourself together: you'll only get so frustrated because the pieces don't fit any way, that you'll probably try to bite the head off some innocent passer-by rather than the nasty bunch of low life that hang out in infidels forums. They get what they desoive.

So cheers. Incidentally, Havana Club is an OK brand of rum. Or a good Jamaican. And remember Ed Murrow ("Good night and good luck").

Long time lurker on this forum...... just want to say thanks to Vork.
Not sure you realise the impact that your thoughtful posts have had the lurkers who swim these muddy waters.

Hope you get it together to your satisfaction...and PLEASE do come back when you are ready!
