Noah: "You're going to what?"
God: "Flood the Earth, I'm bored of the people."
Noah: "But why don't you just-"
God: "Do you want to be saved or not?"
Noah: *sigh* "Yes, Lord. So are you going to sit me on a cloud for a bit?"
God: "No, I want you to build a big boat."
Noah: "A ship..."
God: "Yes, smartarse, a ship."
Noah: "Can't you make one for me?"
God: "Yes, but I'm not going to. Oh and I like the animals, so go and collect two of each."
Noah: "Hang on, why? Can't you just kill those you don't like instantly and-"
God: "Look, I'm writing a book and I need some good filler, now shut up and go and put animals on a bloody ship"

There's no point arguing with anyone about it, and there is no point them coming up with rational explanations, because you have an all powerful magic pixie that can basically do anything. Nothing is then an insurmountable problem. God could have shrunk all the animals to a teeny-weeny size first.

Imagine all the STD's Noah and his family must have been carrying.

There was a thread with Noah's ark a while back, after I pointed out the impossible logistics of Noah even building the ark on his own, never mind feeding, housing etc. the animals, I think I finally pointed out how unfeasible it would be that the ark even managed to float.

His final answer, Noah lived well past 100, god's will gave him the strength to build the ark and provided the resources and god's will kept it afloat.

There ends the argument and that is what it will always come down to for the religionists that believe that nonsense.

Moreover, the ark had only one window (Genesis 6:16). How did they manage to ventilate this thing with only one window?

What about waste disposal? The bible says that after everyone had entered, "the Lord shut him in" (Genesis 7:16). Were they then able to open doors, sluices or the single window to get rid of all the feces and urine the animals produced?

How was the ark illuminated? (A creationist on the board once answered "fireflies")

What prevented animals from killing one another, getting into a panic and injuring themselves, falling sick and dying, or breeding to the extent that they were a strain on the food supplies?

2. how were the animals dispersed after the flood?
3. what did the herbivores eat after the flood, and what did the predators stalk?
Welcome. Is that Gainesville, FL? If so double welcome. Actually, fitting all the animals on the ark is only one of many problems faced by creationists. John Woodmorappe (aka Jan Peczkis) wrote a book claiming that the ark was feasible. Just google woodmorappe. The creationists must also explain where the water came from and where it went. As others have mentioned inside all their answers is a bit of 'then a miracle happens'. In short, if your friend wants to accept the story on faith, fine. If he/she wants scientific evidence for the flood, then they've some serious issues.

Cheers

The real question about Noah's Ark is why would any christian want to believe their god is a mass murderer? Most don't and hence understand that stories like this are simply myths from a less civilised period where killing lots of people was seen as a sign of power rather than evil.

As mentioned above, deists do not (as a rule) adhere to this story. Perhaps you meant "theist," a more general term?

Don't be silly, the answers are obvious.

Actually, they were on board for about a year.

Well luckily the Ark was made of gopher wood because unlike the Titanic, it just bounced off that glacier.
