There is a fairy tale called The Four Musicians of Bremen that features a talking donkey. All the animals talk in it actually.

If you think about it, he would have actually been a pretty poor fairy tale character if he were real. He posessed no special powers other than the ability to talk, he was very definitely not very bright and he just wouldn't shut up... so he'd be from some third-rate fairy tale.
