i don't hate any gods. can't, really. but i do hate the actions some people take in his/her/its/their name(s), and i hate the trend of some who believe trying to impose their beliefs on my life. it's the followers and the doctrine that bug me.
also, along the lines of what Plog said, deconverts, especially recent ones, have a lot of emotion still tied to their religious past. this has been discussed at length here. and as JGL53 mentioned, many people speak quite sarcastically about the big dog, which you may be reading as hatred. |

Additionally, what some may interpret as hatred often is resentment of, and argument against, those Xian's who blatantly attempt to force their religious dogma into public law. |

No. I don't "hate" something that don't exist to me. In my country, although every religion has its own space, the most intrusive religion is Christianity.
Actually, I grew up with no particular notion of the concept of "God". my parents are pagan Taoists and in my early childhood, I am familiar with many different pagan Chinese deities but never a pious worshipper. I would have continued as a nominal Taoist if not for the first evangelism encounter. Till then, while I was aware of Christianity, I was never interested. I was waylaid by this friendly person and she began to explain her religion, Christianity to me..I don't remember much of the conversation but what left a deep impression was this: she mentioned that to be accepted by God, I had to be a Christian. it would put me on the same side as God and I could go to Heaven. Then, she said that non-Christians are on the same side as the Devil and bound for Hell. Now, although I was alien to the concept of Christianity, I know about the devil from the RPG I was playing and Hell from my Taoist knowledge. It struck me as a particularly unfriendly thing to say, to group me with the Devil and going to Hell for not believing, since hell, to me then was a place where evil-doers go to in their afterlife before getting reincarnated as animals. Of course, that took place like 15 years ago before Christians nowadays described to me of hell as just a "place separated from God", minus the fires and brimstones..Since then, I began to take some interest in Christianity, read a bit of the Bible and even visited my friend's church a few times. Nowadays, I still get evangelists knocking on my doors and some being particularly insensitive to my mum's belief. (one said that she was praying to a dead person ![]() ![]() |

Dunno, I sometimes capitalise and sometimes not. I haven't worked out if it's correct grammar yet or not

I resent Christians who attempt to force their religion on me but at that the same time I often see Christians being insulted who aren't doing the forcing religion thing..

The last part is correct, at least for me. I think the idea, the character, of Yahweh is despicable. If he truly did exist, he would be one gigantic asshole. Therefore I hate the idea that he exists, inasmuch as I wouldn't like it one bit if such an egotistical diety really was in charge of it all. That people want to crash their heads to the cobblestones every time his name is mentioned really doesn't bug me- it's when they want me to do it too that really pisses me off. But I hate the idea of a god that espouses wholesale murder, the rape of young girls, slavery, homophobia, stoning and war as effective means of rulership and control. That's the kind of shit I hate. If people were out there preaching the word of Zeus, and started killing people over Him? You betcha. I'd 'hate' him too. Ty |

I agree with JGL53 in Post #6 concerning god, and Plognark expresses it quite well in post #3. I am a fairly recent de-convert, so i feel a lot of bitterness, but not towards a non-existent god. Another issue that you could mis-interpret as hatred is a lack of respect. I have no respect or reverence toward a god that doesn't exist, so i have no issue having a little fun with the god concept in a very irreverent way. I know christianity much better than other religions, so this is easier with christianity than with other religions. |
