When I want a little light relief I sometimes trawl the various religious satellite channels available in the UK - they invariably provide some amusement.

However, why do some of these sects persist in dressing up? I saw some weird group last night where the 'Pastor' was dressed like a Catholic Cardinal - Why?

Then there are the other weirdos who pretend they're Jews yet still succeed in completely ignoring the first commandment.

What is it with these fundies? Or is it that they just like the trappings of Judaism and Roman Catholicism but aren't quite so keen on the rest of the rules that go with either belief?

PS. Oh and why can't they keep their hands off serious music? Last night they managed to bastardise the final movement of Beethoven's Ninth with some ghastly sanctimonious lyrics!

Because it's show biz. If you dress in a sweat shirt and jeans you look like an ordinary person and no one will care. But put on a costume and you can pretend that you are anything you like and the audience will suspend it's disbelief.

They do that to add some spice to their boring life. Their 'world' is quite barren and flat, so to speak, and that teaches people to crawl. You must remember here that it is not easy to be a Jesus worshipper without rewards of any kind and that is probably also why they bastardized Beethoven's Ninth.
