Yes, maybe the issue of whether heaven would be boring is the standard metaphysically unknown question.

The only comment I can say is that heaven would be full of fundies and other theist types. That would not be boring, that would be hell.

Sarpedon:

Those depictions may be inaccurate or misleading, though. If pressed, very few theologians would say that Heaven will be like an eternal church service.

I've always thought that the highest form of praise isn't a bunch of shouting and waving your hands, but to be genuinely contented in the work God has given you to do. In that sense, I'm sure Heaven will be full of praise.

"My question is, what makes you think that an Omnipotent, Omniscient Being couldn't keep things interesting for eternity?"

Because it lacks the benevolent part. He could but would he do it ? that's another question...

sullster got it right. I know an awful lot of uppity, pious-assed christians who talk constantly about heaven. All that praise and worship; playing harps and shouting in the land of 'milk and honey' and streets of gold; where no pain, no hunger, no ugly peeps, no fat bloated bodies, no worries, no crying, no death, no nothing.....but eternal halleluyah's.............to de big DADDIO. Yep, totally silly. Just plain stupid.

Phillipe*:

Yeah I neglected to mention the Omnibenevolent part, but surely it's understood that the Christian God is such.

If He were to allow us to be bored at some point, we could assume that He has a morally sufficient reason to do so.

But the implication usually is that simply by virtue of the fact that Heaven is endless in duration it must therefore be boring. I see very little reason to accept this idea.

Hang on though, surely God is bored! I mean. eternity means he will do everything an infinite number of times!

I thought hell was supposed to fill that function.

It could just as easily mean He does an infinite number of different things once each.

The real problem here, of course, is that luvluv's presumption completely undercuts the free will defense. If God is willing to be the entertainment committee in a perfect heaven, why bother with an imperfect world with the silly notion that free will justifies everything.

Yes, of course an infinite God could do anything. The fact that we have this world to suffer before we get to the good stuff really points to the lack of a god in the first place.

(Good to see ya again, luvluv BTW: The Varieties of Religious Experiences was awful. )

I really don't see how the fact that Heaven won't be boring undercuts the free will defense.
