Exactly. Look at the bright side. You are now free to have sex with whomever you want. So is your wife. Also, you no longer need to call home and check in with the little woman. Just head for the bar or the golf course with your friends, like we single people do. One more thing: get rid of that silly wedding ring.

They do not have the right to marry their significant other and have it recognized by the law.
For the record, I'm black. I'm also one-half of an interracial marriage. Not so long ago, the government wouldn't recogize my marriage because of my skin color. How is it any different now that its sexual orientation rather than pigment? What gives government the right to say who I can spend the rest of my life with and who I can't? Who will inherit my property when I pass and who won't? Who will give consent on life/death decisions if I am not able and who cannot? Who will get custody of my children and who will not?
No, the issue is not as cut and dry as you would have us believe.

In my eyes, it is insulting to me as a black woman to constantly hear people talk about the struggle for equality as if the term is delgated to only women and minorities.
It isn't. Gays, blacks, women, hispanics, dwarfs, the physically handicapped and deformed, and any other categories of our species that I have left out....they are all HUMAN. And until we can have equal treatment for them all under the law, the struggle for equality will continue.

As far as government being involved in helping to promote traditional family, it has done it for decades and has a vested interest in doing so. Like it or not, the best scenario for raising kids is having a mom and dad, and in allowing same sex marriages will diminish that formular for raising children. The evidence is overwhelming. If your goal is to provide the best possible enviroment to raise children, a mom and dad is obligatory.
The best environment for raising kids is one filled with love and support along with stable financial footing. Families have ceased to be traditional for some time now. Mom and Dad no longer raise kids all alone. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends of the family, even other siblings are caring for children across the entire nation. Are they somehow less because they fail to meet the steretypical view of what a nuclear family is supposed to be?
Further, I don't think heterosexuals have done such a good job with their reproductive powers. We have children in this nation where 1 out of every 5 is in poverty. We have thousands unable to be adopted and living in abusive households. I would rather have a child living with love and acceptance than abuse and neglect any day.
Our society is broken right now. This is but one of the many problems that we have to fix. Instead of wasting time denying rights to people, why don't we use our rights to heal our country and ourselves? Why the need for further division?

Tangie

Edited to add: It is a fact that some of these children people are using as an excuse to ban gay marriage will turn out to be homosexual adults. What lessons are we teaching our gay children in this country? What about them? If you would fight for the children, then fight for all of them, gay and heterosexual alike. Maybe you've never seen gay teenagers driven to suicide and depression, but I have. And these arguments against gay marriage do nothing to make them want to stay here and live with this kind of ignorance.
