I wonder if any Dutch readers could comment on something I saw in an article at the Chalcedon Foundation. That's the ultra-conservative Christian group that, lately, has opposed the elevation of Gene Robinson as Episcopal bishop of New Hampshire. Because he's gay, see.
The point of the article (I guess) is that having a gay bishop will lead down the slippery slope until America is like the Netherlands. Quote:
Or is the only problem, as the first paragraph indicates, that the church is baptizing lesbians' babies? |

Yikes! Religious tolerance is the downfall of us all! I wonder if that is what the fundies in the White House think? Also, how do they know that the babies are lesbians? Those Christians sure are tricky.

well. as a dutch person i hardly notice the existence of churches/christianity. many churches have been converted into non-religious community centers, tourist attractions, some even into clubs/disco's, many have been abandonded for decades.
in my own city the local church was located next to a sex shop for years, which was a source of great amusement to me. the remainder of the 'church' here finds itself not taken very seriously and increasingly tries to 'liberalize' in order to attract new people to the church, amusingly they always seem to be about 3 decades behind the rest of the country. |

I'm pretty sure that I've read that the Chalecedon Institute is pretty tied up with Diebold and election fraud....ahh, yes, here's a snippet...

A'ie de vooroetgang tegenholdt, mien jong, dan goat 's noch hard zat genog. ![]() I must be said, however, that even 25 years ago the average Dutch Christian would have considered Pastor Ron Gleason's insights to be a part of the fossile record. |

Church? What church?
![]() Immigrants are the most religious people in the Netherlands AFAIK. There's a few fundy-denomenations, but they're very marginal. |

Holland's OK. I't is well know that most people in all 193 countries know exactly where to find it. |
