A friend of mine said this to me after we'd heard a radio debate, I can't remember exactly what about.
She's an ex-catholic and was also once married to a muslim so read the quran. She said it was love this love that. Islam loves women;polygamy was to help war widows by giving them husbands;women get rights and so on. I said it was all about which bits you read and remember; it's all about interpretation. People make of religion what they want by following the bits they want and interpreting things to say what they want. If you want to be loving, peaceful, tolerant and non-mysoginistic you read such and such and ignore all the bits that don't fit into that view. If you want to kill, hate, oppress and destroy you read and follow this bit and that bit and ignore the bits that don't fit and interpret whatever to say what you need it to say to justify your evil. Unfortunately I was less coherent than that because I'm rubbish at debate. I couldn't think of any examples of where reliogion isn't loving or could be interpreted to say whatever you wanted though I did say that I've read loads of them on this site. I could have mentioned that there were loads of x-xtians here and Mughal. Please give me example of where religion isn't loving and cuddly. I suppose I could have mentioned the "women are the root of all evil" bit from the Bhagvadgita but that's a completely different religion. |

I just read some of the quotes from the links.
Good god you just don't hear xtians mention those passages when they talk about their loving god. I should write a few down for future use. |
