Obviously, Mr. Hart has absolutely no idea how tectonic plates work.

Of course, we "get" it. But I doubt that someone who doesn't pay attention to creationist nonsense would.

Johnny Hart has done quite a few B.C. strips with a fundamentalist foundation such as this one. I can’t remember specific gags, but I remember the proselytizing quite well.
The irony here, at least to me, is that, where as Charles Schulz started with some kids and a dog who sleeps on TOP of his dog house (which he flies into dog-fight battles with the Red Baron) and Sam Waterson started with a little kid to whom his stuffed tiger is quite real . . . but either artist believed the situations or characters where real. But in B.C. we have a cartoonist who quite literally believes that dinosaurs walked the earth with humans as he draws in his comic strip. |

The scientific illiteracy of our public is quite upsetting.

"Q. Do you ever get complaints about the B.C. strip?
A. Every once in a while. But it's usually people who are offended by an antievolution gag. If I bring in a Christian message, they say: "Well, the title is B.C. -- it's before Christ. How can you bring in Christ?"" "Q. What's the most gratifying thing you've done professionally? A. Just what we're talking about. I've turned the strip into a ministry. I was almost beginning to get tired of my work until that happened." http://www.ptm.org/JulHartofBC.htm |
