Let's better use plain language, shall we? The question is this:

The Jesus idea comes from the Jesus story, and it has one sourcebook, the Bible. Or what other source does it have?
Well, if you believe that Jesus was historical, his life and ministry is the "sourcebook" that the gospels were based on. If you believe that Jesus was mythical, then the gospels (or whatever prototype the gospels were based) would be the sourcebook.

Obviously, no one has written a book about me, but my grandchildren will know who I am based on stories passed down.
1) There is no documentary source for Jesus' "life and ministry" other than the Bible.
2) Hercules and Krishna are by your own criterion, historical, because their lives were legendary (the stuff of stories in a heritage of storytelling).

-Your turn-

If Jesus was historical one might expect fuller & more reliable accounts of his life, written at the time, or with a year or two.

One would not expect the various 1st & 2nd C commentaries
  • about him being the Son of a Spirit/Ghost and the son of God without a human father.
  • the alleged-Pauline stated he did not get his information from Human Beings, but "by revelation" ... (Gal 1:10-12)
The initial heresies were to claim he was human!! Modern Christianity is a heresy!!

if Jesus were mythical we would see stories & belief systems that changed, merged, & evolved, as we do with Zoroastrianism, Docetism, Marcionism, Arianism, Montanism, etc.

Your grandchildren, great-grandchildren, & even your great-great-children, will know about you from various official records, pictures, mementos, etc.
