I am a natural coward. You wouldn't catch me doing anything as silly as getting myself nailed to a cross on a hilltop on a stormy day. Where I will be sat there is no virtually danger of lightning through anything other than supernatural causation, which to my mind is a logical and grammatical absurdity. I have no fear of thunder at all. But lightning, that scares the crap out of me.

I have decided to make Wednesday July 7th, 20:00 GMT the hour of judgement. Knowing that some Americans will still be at work at that time I'll try to pace myself as long as the drinks and nibbles supply holds out.

I will also be allowing other people to hook up to me in the chatroom and make their own challenges to the gods. Ideally I'd like to get people from all around the world to join in.

If any deity wishes to register a conscientious objection to smiting me they can send their apologies by email, text message, words of fire across the sky or any other suitable medium, quoting the password which is on display on my noticeboard. This should present no logistical difficulties for any deity who is omnipresent and knows the secrets of men's hearts.

Default The Final Countdown

In a few hours it will be over.

20:00 GMT today.

Last night there was a huge thunderstorm at my house, it woke me up three times. If there is a repeat performance tonight things will be entertaining.

I'm rooting for Mithra (Mash me Mith') I always was a sucker for the underdog.

Well I've got the beer in already and it has passed the quality control test.

I've no idea how long I can keep it going for, that I suppose is in the lap of the gods. <groan> I'll be starting at 20:00 GMT (9pm UK time) and I hope to keep it going for about three hours but that depends entirely on how much fun I'm having.

There could well be some technical issues because this stuff will be stretching my old computer to near its limits. But in a way that will all just add to the fun. I hope.

Well, it looks like Martin escaped unsmitten...

...for some reason, I'm not entirely surprised

Yes, it went very close to what might laughingly be called the plan. There were technical difficulties, things did crash and there was not the slightest hint of supernatural causation.

I might do it again some time, or some variation on the theme.

Ah. God missed you, but managed to smite your equipment occasionally.

If the Bishop of Durham -> York Minster lightning incident is an indication, God has VERY slow reflexes and/or needs a few weeks to generate a suitable voltage. Maybe stationary electronic equipment is all he could effect in the timeframe available, assuming He doesn't have Internet access and hence couldn't prepare the strike beforehand.

Ah, glad to see you're still doing this. I remember back in the day when I first saw you becoming our, dare I say, humble sacrifice. Keep up the hilarity Martin..heh.
