Yes, that's what I gathered from your posts. I've only seen a few posters on IIDB expressing that they find it personally offensive that Christians believe what they believe and you haven't been one of them.

That they believe in a God, I don't take offense. That they believe I am bent and broken, damned to hell and I deserve it, I take offense. I resent them for holding those beliefs even if they haven't stated them to me. Does it work both ways? Well, they do state their beliefs about me as a person to me. Otherwise, I wouldn't be here. Otherwise, I would never state my beliefs towards Christianity to them. I would have total apathy towards Christianity. That's the difference. Their beliefs that I resent are directed at me as a person not what I believe.

I agree completely. If it's done as in your analogy, it's really not addressing beliefs or opinions at all. It's just rude and insulting to the person. In that case, I would agree that the person would be justified in taking offense. If I just showed disrespect for beliefs they hold, and I wasn't rude, insulting or disrespectful to the person, I don't see the problem.

To be honest though, like I just posted, the beliefs Christians hold at their core are disrespectful of me and all other non-believers. I certainly don't respect them for that, and there lies the problem in separating disrespect for the person and their beliefs since actually they are one and the same.

The fact that I can respect xians while hating their religious beliefs shows that you are demonstrably wrong.

Sincerely,

I didn't say you couldn't. I can't. Think of a racist. Can you respect a person that views other people in that way? I can't. Think of a Christian. They read Joshua and the murdering of babies, women and children. They shrug their shoulders and scoff that God must have known they deserved it. Not only do I despise that belief set, but I honestly can't respect someone that could view humanity in that way.
