Verifiable is really not a criterium for a theory. Almost every claim (except the obviously false ones) is, at least in theory, verifiable. That it isn't verifiable in practice, or even narrower right here, right now, does not automatically discredit it. Also, verifying, as in proving a theory is ultimately not possible. You can only test certain predictions, and by making a lot of true predictions, a theory can gain credibility. However that doesn't mean it can't be proven wrong anytime soon. Think of newtonian mechanics. The criteria for a viable theory are a) does it make predictions/explanations? If not, it's useless. b) Is it the simplest accurate one? If another theory exists that explains the same / makes equally accurate predictions with invoking less entities, it is the preferrable one. and c) is it falsifiable. If a theory can't, even in theory be falsified it useless because it makes only empty statements. Last thursdayism is one of those. |

You can't prove the Bible is the word of God. Trouble is, the Creationists "know" and the rest of us poor deluded souls will spend eternity in damnation! :devil3:
