We need a deconversion option.

Not religious and don't like gambling. I'm cheap and I hate the blinking, seizure inducing lights often found in casinos.

I do, however, enjoy losing at poker with friends once in a while. But I don't really consider it gambling. I consider it giving money to my friends after we play cards and I drink their booze and eat their chips

Someone explain to me what "luck" is. I believe in statistics.

Like getting freebies in the Casino ... if you pace yourself it can be a cost effective outing ...

I really do not fit the intent of the poll ..

1 - No longer have religious beliefs .. but attend for social and other reasons

2- Undecided on what is superstitous .. wondering if habits / preferences that make me feel more comfortable are based on irrational expectations .. e.g. I always try to put on my right shoe first .. not that I think putting on the left 1st would cause me to trip  but I have taken them off on occasion because I was not sure I put them on right then left : when I was active in sports I had certain rituals ( I called them concentration aids :Cheeky: ) which I am sure many others have similair practices.

3 - While I do not "Gamble" per the accepted meaning .. I own stock .. am planning for my eventual retirement (around age 70 if things continue as they are in Washington & with the general economy)

Depends what you mean by "gamble". I will put a small amount on the horses now and again and get the odd tickets in raffles and draws. I know the odds (and how unfavourable they are) and I don't expect to win. In other words I spend what I can easily afford and view it as an entertainment expense, like a drink, watching a movie and such. Is it gambling in the sense that I take part in something where reward is dictated by chance? Yes. Does it have a significant (positive or negative) effect on my disposable income so that I actually rely on it or are greatly affected by it? No

At one time, I faithfully bought a $1.00 instant lottery ticket every payday. Then I realized that any 'win' was actually a theft from someone else who had bought a ticket.

Interestingly, my overall financial situation improved dramatically once I removed that particular cognitive dissonance from my life.

If there's a free draw at work I'll throw my name in the hat. But I refuse to gamble for money.
