LA Times (which announced a new round of layoffs today, but does have a spiffy video on its site.)

Quote:
Archaeologist William Schniedewind of UCLA agreed, saying Levy "is completely right. The scientific evidence seems to be going in his favor."

Critics, however, charge that Levy is overinterpreting the importance of the radiocarbon dates, because there is no evidence of habitation at the earliest dates to go with them. That suggests the site was operated periodically by nomads and not associated with any city or kingdom, much less an empire, according to archaeologist Piotr Bienkowski of the University of Manchester in Britain.

Without further evidence, "it is premature to start talking about links with a 'biblical Solomon,' " he said.

Archaeologist Israel Finkelstein of Tel Aviv University in Israel, added: "Taking the biblical description of King Solomon literally means ignoring two centuries of biblical research."

For our next task we'll see how much Hebrew sojourner excrement we can get into one sewer pit.

It is well possible that Solomon existed but that real Solomon does not match the description of him in 1 Kings. He probably was a local chieftain governing a hilly area around Jerusalem and probably would not have had any control over mines across the Jordan.

Just like Hector might have been a prince in Troy and yet not bear much resemblance to Hector of the Illiad (or even to Hector of the Hollywood movie).

Oh wait, that's just the photo.
Next thing you know they'll be a photograph of Inidiana Jones and the Ark of the Covenant on the cover of Christianity Today, Special Biblical Archaeology Edition.
I thought Richard Chamberlain found it first

Who else could have done it?

We could always check with Pat Robertson as I seem to remember him declaring he and his crew had found Solomon's mine. I think he even had a map to the exact location. God, of course, had revealed this miracle to Pat and of course he wanted to share it, for a donation of course. Or maybe it was a goldmine that Pat bought through his vision. The man was always seeing things, even the internal organs of people in his TV audience.

I'm unfortunate enough to have a quote from the terrible movie burned into my brain:

"All I know is that if it isn't here, it's somewhere else"
