At my local YMCA, there's a rack of "freebie" publications -- mostly stuff like kayaking and cycling newsletters, active-senior publications, etc. However, one of the magazines available is "Good News Etc." which touts itself as "San Diego's Christian Newspaper". Well, this morning I picked up a copy to read while I did my morning lifecycle stint. What I found in it was quite sobering -- it really demonstrated how American fundamentalist Christianity has gone "totally 'round the bend".

On the opinion page of the newsletter is a piece entitled, "Schwarzenneger: An inquiry". It starts out by taking a few swipes at California's hormone-soaked governor and then turns into an all-out foaming-at-the-mouth, call-out-the-men-in-the-white-suits anti-gay rant.

Here are some excerpts:

"It is a fact that the Nazi leadership was infested with homosexuals and that Hitler himself was a homosexual.... Hitler, before WWI, was a flagrant, open homosexual....

(Scott)Lively and (Kevin)Abrams have demonstrated that the American and world homosexual movements use the same tactics of intimidation propaganda, as well as violence, to achieve world homosexual power and the destruction of Christianity.

How is this related to California? The time for our revolution against the facist and Nazi homosexual power has arrived. In the state of California today, the homosexual world movement has decided to seize all avenues of power and impose homosexuality in the schools and universities by any means possible. The time to stop them is now. Unless every Christian church and denomination unites in this effort the homosexual world movement will seize the state of California.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has appointed a lesbian who was associated with the pro-homosexual Gray Davis, former governor, as his chief of staff. His educational advisor is Alan Bersin, former superintendent of schools of San Diego, a friend of Hillary and Bill Clinton. We know that Hollywood is controlled and owned by pro-homosexual people and that the aim of Hollywood is to proselytize for the world homosexual movement as recent films testify. It is all-out war. I say that Sodom shall be destroyed in the Name of Jesus Christ our Lord. The homosexual world movement has begun its final attack against the children of California. This satanic attack shall not pass. In the Name of Christ Our Lord we shall stop them now.

I call upon this Christian community in every county in this state to rise up against this governor who has allied himself with the Democratic Party and its pro-homosexual cohorts. We shall remove him as governor. We must create a new nominee for governor now and if the liberal elements of the Republican Party remain with Arnold, so be it. The last-ditch fight for the protection of the children and students of California has arrived. Be not deceived. Take your stand now because the enemy of God has entered the citadel and we are besieged. We will not surrender the children and teenagers of California to the homosexual world movement".

(No anti-homosexual rant is complete without at least one reference to Hillary Clinton, I guess.)

Much of the rest of the "Good News Etc." newsletter is nearly as nutty. There's a nice, long rant against the upcoming movie "The Da Vinci Code", a swipe at Walmart for deciding to stock the "Plan B" morning-after pill in its pharmacies, a call to boycott Ford for supporting gay rights, and an article that mentioned, among other things, how the Air Force religion guidelines were revised, "dropping the admonition about respecting the rights of others". In the parallel universe that is American fundamentalism, there's apparently no worse a way to repress someone than to ask that he/she respect the rights of others!

This stuff is seriously spooky -- and the fact that all around us are co-workers and neighbors who buy into all this makes it even spookier!

Will homosexuality damage religion? We can only hope. It's estimated that 10%+ are homosexual, and even more are bisexual, Under a widely accepted psychological theory, that nobody is born "just gay" or "just strait" everybody is born somewhere in the gray region. Now I doubt that homosexuality will destroy Christianity, but so many people are coming out of the closet in such great numbers, that the church will enevitably have to accept them or continue to fight a losing battle, it will continue pick away and weaken the church, assisting in it's downfall.

yeah, he kind of forgot to mention that homosexuals were murdered along side the jews in the holocaust, parhaps he just "forgot" that Christianity was the religion of the nazi's, and that the holocaust was done in the name of Christianity.
