Hey everyone...

Been a loooong time since I've been browsing these forums or keeping up with the debates. How's everyone? Have we proven that Jesus was really an alien with laser beams shooting out his eyes yet?

Anyway, was just wondering where all the OT nuts have gone... do they discuss stuff anymore somewhere else? I looked at these forums and couldn't find any recent posts on archaeology or hebrew bible criticism (tsk tsk!)... is there some other place they do it these days?

I'm currently reading Liverani's Israel's History and the History of Israel (or via: amazon.co.uk), and that book is like candy... which made me decide to drop by and look for OT people to talk about it.

Would appreciate if someone points to where they've gone

There's never been much Hebrew bible related discussion on this forum, as most are too tied up with christianity. That's why I fart about with christ. lit. or deal with dummies regarding prophecies, especially Daniel.

Sad title for the Liverani book. It should have been "Beyond the Bible: the ancient story of Israel", literally. I've been too lazy to get past the introduction. But what do you mean by candy? You're gobbling it up? It's too sweet for your liking? Not a substantial meal?

I was in Uganda for 1.5 years, back in Singapore for a year now... got a taste of working in a warzone, but ultimately got tired of (work) politics in Africa.

So Liverani: Candy because it's tantalising but somehow unsatisfying because he races too fast over some of the interpretations which I'd love to see him expound more on. Partly it's my own fault for being completely out of touch, but he skims past Omri in two pages, and I don't quite follow a lot of the things he says.

Like for example:
Now it's plausible, and certainly a fitting reconstruction, but these are things people have been arguing back and forth for years (or so I thought). So I wish he'd have said something to address the various if/what/maybes people have put forward in their reconstruction of Tel Dan. Or did a whole consensus leap up from nowhere while I was gone?

I also love his treatment of habiru, far and away better than anything I've come across that brings a whole lot of consilience to something that was troubling me for a long time. David gathering his habiru fighters... classic!

Anyway, read the damn book so I can hear your thoughts about it too

The jury is out on the alien part, but I proved the laser beams years ago.

I think the fact that Jesus can aim the laser beams out of his eyes in two separate directions is a clear sign of divinity to be honest.

Anyway, good to see you all around again still! Any great good books (on ANE/archaeology/Hebrew Bible Crit) I've missed that came out between 2005 and now?
