Enfield, the only carbon dating done on the shroud proved that it was only about 700 years old, and that was verified by three separate laboratories. You have confused the controversial pollen sampling claim with the more reliable carbon dating test.

The word sudarium is Latin and is derived from sudo, to sweat, and was a cloth used to wipe the sweat off the face. The word jumped from Latin into Greek as soudarion. It became a generic term for a small cloth, as in Luke 19:20, where it usually is translated as "napkin".

It was placed over a dead person's head, John 11:44 (Lazarus) and 20:7 (Jesus).

Where did the idea of one big piece of cloth which covered the whole body come from? Obviously not from the biblical source.
