Default Academic Resources.

This thread is for the recommended reading for political, social and economic theory forum. It is open to you, the users, to add to whenever you come across a valuable resource that you would like to share with your fellow posters. Please feel free to contribute - it will be greatly appreciated.

As it is an open resource, however, please keep in mind that the suitability/quality of these resources is not guaranteed by IIDB. If you come across any abuse of this system, or broken links, or any other changes that need to be made, please contact a PEST mod and they will edit the posts appropriately.

Please also consider linking to full text copies of your suggestion, if available (for example those found at Project Gutenberg), or to books found at other online outlets. If you wish to link to a book on Amazon (please note that IIDB gets a small percentage of each purchase), then you need the ISBN number, which you should be able to find in the address bar at Amazon, once you've found the book page.

Atheos has kindly constructed a programme that will give you the money-making link after only a couple of clicks! All you have to do is input the nine digit ISBN number. Please consider doing this when you make your recommendation, as it is a good source of revenue for us.

Thanks and have fun with your new resource!

Clearly, you should read The Economist weekly. The ads that say things like "I used to think, but now I just read The Economist" scare me sometimes, but it's a good magazine even though I don't always agree with its opinions.

It seems like you might be able to find online copies of The Communist Manifesto, Mein Kampf, USA and other constitutions/declarations of independence, perhaps the Federalist Papers, the Magna Carta etc to link to. There must be some screed from Ayn Rand on her stuff around too.

Basically, source documents to go along with the scholarly ponderings upon them.

cheers,
Michael

Wikipedia Article on objectivism
Official Intro from the Ayn Rand Institute.

The Best book on objectivism is OPAR:
Objectivism, the Philosophy of Ayn Rand (or via: amazon.co.uk), by Leonard Peikoff
It is the best one in that it gathers all her ideas into one place, and provides references to the original source. Leonard Peikoff is loyal to the point of fanaticism.

The Constitution of the United States of America.
The Bill of rights.
The Declaration of Independence.
The Federalist Papers.
Mein Kampf.
The Communist Manifesto.
Common Sense, by Thomas Paine.
The Patriot Act of 2001.
The works of John Locke.
