Default Is Worshiping Satan wrong?

If people believe in God and the principles associated with it, is it WRONG for people to worship the Devil or Satan?

Most satanists are actually atheistic, and don't really believe in a god or devil. Their worship is of the self, above all other people, kind of the opposite of humanism. They apparently took the name to demonstrate their dislike for christianity.

Now, for the few "satanists" that may actually believe in both god and satan, I suppose that depends on their viewpoint as well. Good and evil can be relative, and one could look at the literal bible and see that god does more quantity of evil (by human standards) than satan, who has different personas throughout the book (if you accept some interpretations, like the snake in Eden being satan). I've seen some humorous remarks on satan actually being the good guy, trying to help out humans, and god constantly mucking things up. Heinlein's "Job: A Comedy of Justice" is another example of this.

I always say (and it usually gets me in trouble) that Christians are already Satan-worshippers.

Apparently, they live in mortal fear of Satan's many wondrous powers and all the things he manages to accomplish on earth--things that even God can't accomplish. Sure, they don't sing hymns to Satan, but they sure revere him and spend their days in awe of him.

Depends. Most religions do the old Deity-creates-everything-even-rebelling-angel, rebelling-angel-rebels-becomes-dualistic-balancer-but-not-as-powerful-as-creator thing. So really, it doesn't matter if you worship Lucifer, he's still part of the Big Omnipotent Uber Non Existent God anyway (and therefore, a-ok). However, if the religion is logical (like, say, some forms of Buddhism) they say if you worship a "Good" deity, then you are also only adding to the power of it's seperate-balancing "Bad" deity at the same time. The bad one isn't created by the good one in this setup, and makes far more sense, as far as value judgements go and simulation theory (if you're into that stuff). So the best thing to do is not to add to the existence of either deity, nor yourself, and focus on reaching Nirvana.

Welcome to the boards! Since most people around here are atheists or agnostics you'll find that questions such as yours belong more in GRD (or here) as we don't get our morality from religion.

I don't know why this was so quickly moved to ~E~. But it seems to be a pretty weird question to be asking a bunch of atheists. I figured you were a troll, which is why I made my cautious post. but then...you didn't answer my question.

Why are you asking this question to a bunch of atheists?

Define "wrong". Since Satan doesn't exist, worhipping it becomes amoral.
