Just as an FYI- MANY Christians (from many different denominations) pretty much dismiss Genesis as a preface to the 'real' Bible. Consider how many pages are spent on things like the tabernacle decorations or the Sabbath observations, and creation and Adam are tossed off in a few sentences?

Combine this with a strong sense that Gen. 1 is written in a poetic style (the phrase 'there was night and day...' repeated periodically can be considered a poetic device, similar to the raven's repeated refrain of 'Nevermore').

Combine all of this with the wide variation of speaking/writing styles and voices used, the deep similarities of stories ot stories from other sources, etc., and many of us are perfectly willing to let Genesis act as a preface or poetic introduction to the 'real' Bible- roughly starting after the 40 years of wandering.

I like "evening came and morning followed" better.
