<simpleton>
If you don't know Everything you know Nothing. If it's not truth it's a lie. If you're not with us you're against us. You deserve eternal bliss or you deserve eternal torment. If its not Right it's Wrong. Either something is good or it is bad. So wat is it? Stop dithering and take a stand you spineless God deniers! </simpleton> Chaupoline, did you really think there was anybody who thinks of abortion as 'good'? Do you think amputation is good? If you do, why doesn't everybody do it? If you don't, should it be illegal? I don't think you are a simpleton. But I am curious why you posted the way you did. The answers from others seem rather obvious to me, you must have thought of them yourself. So what did you really want to know? |

It doesn't matter what any of those religions say about abortion. Abortion is merely a choice made by an individual, when in that individual's opinion, it's the best option available.
Imo, most contemporary religions are paternalistic and will use almost any tactic when attempting to control what a woman does with her body. Women do not need religion to dictate morality to them. Many theist women are wise enough to realize that. |

Abortion is not a good thing in itself, to have the option of abortion is a good thing. Abortion is often traumatizing on the personal level for those couples or single vomen how goes through with one. We have a variety of good contraceptives, the quest should be to have more effective ways to ensure that everyone on this globe have access to them and are properly educated early on about the consequences of not properly using them. Unfortunately mistakes will always be made, especially by young inexperienced people, which is a tough learning experience. Nevertheless, contraceptives are getting better, safer, cheaper and easier to use and I am sure that this medi-technical development will continue. The focus should be on sharply reducing unwanted pregnacies without any infringement of everyones right to consentual sexual fulfillment.

Everyone is too scared to use loaded language on this subject, but I'll say it: I think abortion is great. Awesome. Yes, it's good- it prevents someone from having a baby, one of the biggest stresses and responsibilities in the world. And this is someone who doesn't want one. So it's an awesome option for them, and it means the kid won't grow up in a home where they're unwanted. Perfect! Abortion is great.

There is a huge difference between modern medical abortions and the means that were available in the ancient world. That's one reason why you're not likely to find traditional religions or cultures that encourage abortions.

Apparently nature thinks that abortion is a good thing; so many happen spontaneously.

A feotus is a parasite feeding off its host. If I had a tapeworm I would want it removed. So should a woman who doesn't want a baby. We have been conditioned to respond as if it were a moral question. Get rid of all the emotional baggage and the choice is very simple. Either a woman wants a baby or she doesn't. It's 'her' body thats been invaded so fuck off you pompous self righteous sin-assigning sons o bitches.

As a male, I feel that my views on abortion are about as useful to a woman as a tit on a boar hog is to its offspring. That being said, there are views on the subject I admire. Sister Joan C. (catholic--see Belief Net or PBS) thinks it's hypocrisy to tell a woman not to abort if you have no intention of providing for the future of her child. Mother Teresa felt the same way.
It all may be more a matter of economics than belief. The old Hebrew ideas on this were attached to their obsession with furthering their race. In a time of population congestion, such views are no longer valid. It is certainly unreasonable, IMHO, to expect a woman to bear the seed of incest or criminality. If fundies ever become moral enough to offer a nourished life to such infants, the problem might be solved. |
