Jesus is not saying to put the the things of God first, He is clearly saying to hate your father and mother, your wife and children, your brothers and sisters and your own life if they and you are putting God first and not concerned with each other.

Misguided modern day prophets like to twist this around so they can shirk their duties to humanity and say "God comes first in mah life"

You don't really think that the victory of freedom demands that it cleans up your mess, do you? Or did you forget that the son of man is a solitary individual who is born out of the city of God to be relieved from the social upheaval and hate that led to its demise (that would be like taking up the yoke of slavery a second time and is not my idea of the good life).
