And Jesus spoke again saying, "I am the Light of the world:

He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness,"

"But he shall have the Light of Life."

I have included a bit of John preceding and following the passage, to give it its traditional context.

It almost seems redundant to make the following very general observations.

(1) The challenge is proposed in the text to put Jesus up against the Law in some kind of test.

(2) A test is instigated by the Pharisees who previously discussed the test.

(3) Jesus saves a woman's life. Regardless of other nuances, implications, interpretations, the basic idea seems clear. The woman was at risk of stoning, and a stoning is avoided.

(4) Jesus proclaims Himself the Light of the world, but perhaps more important is the final clause of His saying: "..that person shall have the Light of Life.", in the wake of His word physically saving someone's life.

(5) Although unintended by his opponents, the woman appears to deliberately serve as a 'typology' of Israel herself, often (who can miss it?) cast as an adulteress who is nonetheless spared by her Husband and Lord Jehovah.

Such are the most basic and broad outlines of the story in its traditional context.

The woman is Israel. The Messiah saves her.

Well, this is the perenial drawback: If you want good actors, you have to choose Englishmen and Canadians. (and you're stuck with the inevitable accents as well).

Still, wasn't Jesus' shnoz big enough? He looks uncannily like Abbie Hoffman. Maybe even Leonard Cohen.

Anyway I thought the girl playing the wayward kingdom of Judaea was hot!

I can see how a Pharisee or two may have slipped up and slipped in something that wasn't in the original script...

Aren't all of these images under copyright? And if so, isn't posting them here illegal?

Yeah she reminds me of Sophia Loren.

You call that a schnozz? He looks more like Alan Rickman with a wig.

By the way, why don't you respond to my messages? I'm not feeling the love anymore...

Get serious.

You can quote stills from a movie for review purposes. Anyway, the movie house that made the movie went bankrupt before completing Mark (their final production).

Any advertizing (even bad publicity) is good for a movie, and the new owners (the bank) aren't going to stifle free promotion.

I highly recommend everyone buy a copy of the movie, because it will be off-market soon, when the last production run runs out.

Besides, the pics aren't being hosted here, they're offshore and out of copyright jurisdiction. They're only links.

LMAO on the Rickman/wig! But you're right, if they wanted authenticity, they could have cast an Israeli, or even a 40 year old Ashkenaz Rabban.

No, really, did I miss one? I'll go back and pick through them. Some of your paragraphs didn't seem like questions. You know, I'm always used to answering a question with a question. What is that?

Someone should take this guy for a weekend in Tel Aviv.
