Default Welcome, the tiny saint!

On another thread, this was written. Moderators you decide where this belongs, I thought this thread was closest!

if evolution is true, than it would disprove the Genesis account of Creation and I would no longer call myself a Christian.

I see this as the collapsing house of cards perspective.

And from personal experience, it is a path every thinking Christian must follow. The problem is that the infallible Bible states the truth shall set you free. To seek out truth you have to think, way up evidence, decide.

For a long time there was an uneasy compromise in the west between Science and religion. Religion achieved some excellent things - English cathedrals are superb artistic, scientific and technological achievements. Natural philosophers saw themselves as trying to understand God's world. Slowly they moved to positions like Tom Paine's of Deism.

Then that idiot Darwin went on a boat ride, and using all the scientific skills of observation, deduction and theory building - being very human by looking and observing - found things did not fit - they could not be true.

The Tiny Saint - you appear to be a very thoughtful contributor. I think you will find if you read the original text of Satan incarnate - the Origin of the Species - that the truth is very fascinating and interesting, not because you are being led astray but because it is the truth!

I am reading Rebecca Stott - Darwin and the Barnacle. This book summarises excellently the huge sea change in thinking that Darwin introduced - from a great chain of being to life as like a tree, with everything related.

Give yourself some time, but because you are conscious of the dichotomy between evolution and your current beliefs, it feels as if you have begun to walk away!

To give credit where it's due - many geologists had already been finding evidence that contradicted the Biblical claims about the age of the Earth long before Darwin wrote about evolution.

To be realistic, Geology, Physics, Cosmology and Biology all disprove the Genesis account of Creation if any of them are true.

The last nail's been in that coffin for a long time. They always lose the debate on the merits, but their gums keep flapping anyhow.
