It seems to me that there is an apparent contradiction in maintaining that Paul believed that Jesus had been on earth once, and then was to come again, but the "Second Coming" is a second century phrase. Is it your contention that this passage in 1 Cor is an interpolation? That 1 Cor is late? That Paul is late?

Why would Paul parallel a death (followed by alleged resurrection) which, according to one 20th century writer, happened out of sight in the lower heavens, to death already suffered on earth by Christians (followed by the hoped for future resurrection)?

This is actually my greatest problem with Doherty's theory.
How can you sell salvation by resurrection by giving as example a God or semi-god which was resurrected somewhere in the spirit world.

But if this was a hard sell then we can see the motive to make the Christ into a man.

The point that I was trying to make in this thread is the fact that salvation starts with the resurrection but the Gospel Jesus does not seem to know this except in GJohn. Jesus says "your faith has saved you" but it cannot be faith in the resurrection since it had not happened yet.
