As this thread has resurfaced, I must admit I do like one of my earlier suggestions, "The Open Bible", "TOB" for short, meaning "good" in Hebrew. The word "open" is quite laden in the name.

Ya know, you gotta open the book, and it's not just fer professionals/confessionals, but open to us infidel as well.

I was wondering about doing an online database-driven catalogue of Bible versus... using SAB as a filler to kick-start the thing, and then allowing threaded discussions (in a tree structure like Usenet, not in the (annoying) flat structure as we've got here), but also, having a top-level plain HTML website for each verse or collection of verses, that collects all the comments and provides an analysis of the major points.

So... if you search for "Matthew 1:1-2", then the system returns some links:

NT > Matthew > 1:1-2

1. The static top pages about the NT and Matthew in general (authorship, importance, history, historical Christians that used/liked/disliked Matthew, etc)

2. List of discussions involving the particular versus searched for. (So, discussions of 1:1-10 would turn up, etc).

I think it's right to seperate the scholars from the mass-output-masses (who would drown the former). I think you should have the same top-level pages (perhaps accessed by both domains, if you go for two), but allow people to choose to switch to the Scholar Forums, or the "Discussion Forums".

How are you for web developers by the way? Would you be using standard software (like EZBoard!) to manage the comments? Or would the whole thing *be* a discussion board, with no std website to support it?

Done a few searches, and found the following are free:

www.biblespeak.info
www.versebyverse.info
www.biblesverses.com

www.bible-board.com (scholars?)
www.bible-board.net
www.bible-board.org
www.bible-board-discussion.com (laymen?)

It's a great idea anyway, if the linking between books, verses and discussions works well, it'll be astounding!
