I think that people would be making a mistake to use the film as an evangelical tool. I saw it and was deeply moved by it. I have already run into a couple of people that have tried to use it as a starting point for proselytizing and it really turns me off.
Experiencing the film is a deeply personal experience and to use it as a selling tool cheapens it. I don't mind listening to how the film effected them but they have no right to tell me how I should be effected by it. Evangelicals will do their cause much more harm than good if they try to use the film in this way. |

If you are keen to view every movie this year accept one, then at least give this one a miss. That may be wishful thinking on my part because unfortunately this film is destined to be a hit for a number of reasons. One is the timing right on the start of the Christian Lent so even moderate Xtians will find appealing. We also cannot forget the fanatical Christians will flock to in droves anyway regardless of what time on the calendar it is released. And right in the outer we have the non Christians who are titillated by all its blood and gore. There is always a ready market for millions of them as the gore appears to be so gratuitous and realistic.
I personally have no desire to see it or even read a review, because my fellow countryman, Mel Gibson is such ethnocentric ultra-conservative Christian SOB asshole who belongs to such a radical fringe faction of the Catholic religion that doesn't even get any support from the Pope himself. This IMO is just a load of Celluloid garbage, period. Need I say more. Read about him here |

For what reason would a Christian want to manipulate anyone? There is no personal monetary gain for the true Christian. As you said above, a "real" Christian wouldn't. Manipulate=convert. Take that for what you will. You speak as though there is a Christian conspiracy, but in reality the true conspiracy is to just teach the gospels and love for one another. True Christian ideals are far from threatening. If only it was all so simple. Are these true Christians open to hearing and implementing ideals of other faith systems? The world would be a much better place if true christianity were practiced and all people followed the morality and the teachings of Christ to put others first and to love them and forgive them unconditionally. What makes Christianity so good? Without getting defensive let me offer this to your statement. Could the world be a better place if true Voodoo,Islam, and Hinduism (for example) was practiced as well? What is true Christianity? Please provide the outline for this programme. Regards, SI |

Sometimes paying attention to the structure of a phenomenon instead of the "details" can be enlightening...

Badfish:
A real Christian has no motive for manipulating anyone. Some people have a misguided view of what true Christianity is about. Which implies that most "Christianity" is a fraud. For what reason would a Christian want to manipulate anyone? There is no personal monetary gain for the true Christian. Looking at the real world and not Badfish's "True Christianity", one finds lots of reasons to manipulate people. Money and power, for instance. You speak as though there is a Christian conspiracy, but in reality the true conspiracy is to just teach the gospels and love for one another. True Christian ideals are far from threatening. Except that what exists in the real world is *very* different. The world would be a much better place if true christianity were practiced and all people followed the morality and the teachings of Christ to put others first and to love them and forgive them unconditionally. Start with your co-religionists. Especially clergypeople. A wise man once said something like: When I was twenty, I wanted to reform the world When I was forty, I wanted to reform my village When I was sixty, I decided to only reform myself |

I stumbled across an official message board from the official Passion of the Christ Web site.
