Well with christmas time approaching the many issues about christmas, the spirit of it and the commercialisation of it will inevitably get flagged up. However here's a rather amusing and original BBC News report on a Grotto that's being ran by Satan in York.

Is a grotto like a permanent haunted house attraction or something? I don't recall seeing or hearing about anything quite like this in the U.S. If there is, we call them something else.

As far as "satanic" influences go, it could be worse. This one is at least blatant.

Grottos are kind of like the local chapters of the Church of Satan. Once again, these guys are going for schlock value, and the Christians are playing right into their hands.
But it's all about focusing your energy toward personal success, or so the Satanists will tell you.

At least their Halloween Devil costumes have improved since LaVey's time.

I'm pretty sure this is a gift shop.... They sell evil knick knacks and such. Unprecious Moments, wall plaques with hedonistic proverbs, that sort of thing.

Ah. So it's a marketing thing. Completely understandable then. You have to work the season as best fits your clientele. It makes the reaction of the clergy even less wise, then, as they are just giving free publicity. People never seem to learn this.
