You mean those atheists commit self-pollution? Thank goodness the rest of us don't!

When I was a Catholic, I self-abused frequently, and I knew other Catholics who admitted to doing so. Now that I am in apostasy from Holy Mother Rome, my partner and I can abuse each other instead.

From what I've seen, "masturbation" is more likely used to describe a discussion rather than being the topic of the discussion itself.

Athiests do not generally self-pollute or self-abuse. Both of those imply doing something negative. Athiests simply masturbate.

Do folks become atheists to justify self gratification? or is it just a by-product?
I must admit that I found the release of my mind, the sudden freedom of thought I felt, when I realized I was an atheist quite orgasmic...

Seriously, I doubt very strongly that anyone's ever become an atheist just so they could masturbate. Things are quite a bit more complicated than that. AFAIK, the only way I know to become an atheist is to lose belief in God. It's not a choice one makes; it's something that happens to you. How could I choose not to believe in God just so I could masturbate? That's my experience, anyway.

Heck, I masturbated as a theist and can't say I ever felt guilty over it ... but alas I became an atheist and still feel no guilt! And I can honestly say the morality of masturbation did not factor in at all in my deconversion process!

Well for what it's worth I didn't masterbate for close to 10 years after I first said no to gods. Yes, you can be a prude with or without the big bad meanie in the sky.

Yes, you are absolutely right. But we masterbate in the dark just in case we are wrong about that whole god thing.

Saw this on slashdot today

"Newsweek is running an article on the fMRI, which tracks brain function by measuring blood flow, and using it for watching the mechanics of economics and choice. Best quote on economic choice: '... there is no quantity of juice sufficient to get a male monkey to look away from the hindquarters of a female in estrus.' H. Hefner has known that all along."
