On another board, I've been discussing 2 Corinthians 6:14 - the famous "unequally yoked" verse used by some Christians to condemn any of their number who dare to marry an unbeliever (or even to justify their divorcing since being "unequally yoked" is obviously a worse sin than being divorced...)

Anyway, I did what I always do, and checked Peter Kirby's excellent Early Christian Writings Website to see what it had to say about 2 Corinthians.

Interestingly, Peter cites Norman Perrin, Werner Georg Kummel and Joseph Fitzmyer (here) as theorising that the section of 2 Corinthians I am looking at (6:14-7:1) is probably a later interpolation and was not part of Paul's original letter.

Can anyone provide me with more information on this?

Some scholars believe that the passage is by Paul but was not originally part of 2 Corinthians.

It may be a surviving fragment of the early letter of Paul to Corinth which he mentions in 1 Corinthians 5:9-13 where he appears concerned that his instructiions were being misunderstood as more drastic than he intended.
