It has nothing to do with gaining credibility in my eyes. As a rule, however, one ought be familiar with something before condemning it.

Please re-visit the OP. This thread is titled "Things I've never understood the genius of...." I clearly don't understand the genius of Picasso.
My contention is that you don't understand the genius of Picasso because (like many people) you haven't bothered to give his art more than a cursory glance.

In my opinion, his work is ugly and I don't like it. That you have a different opinion is ok by me...
Differences of opinion don't bother me; I don't mind the idea that the Picasso paintings you've seen are ugly. I take issue only with the fact that you criticize his paintings universally when obviously you haven't seen them all. As I said, Picasso had a huge number of paintings covering a great range of styles.

but you choose to call me ignorant and get a bit snotty.
Calm down, I never called you any such thing. I simply said you were uninformed in regard to Picasso's paintings, which is just a reflection of what you said yourself.

*shrugs* I joined this thread to have a little fun. *heads off to read other posts*
Do whatever makes you happy. Personally, I've been having fun defending an artist who's criticized for bogus reasons way too often.
