Why limit ourselves indeed? There is, apparently, historical evidence that certain ninja clans were seafaring, and engaged in piracy.

Imagining them undead and very sexy isn't much of a stretch....

I can't possibly be expected to choose between Jack Sparrow, Kenshin Himura, and these guys! I refuse to vote!

My beautiful ex-boss has a pirate outfit - a poofy white blouse, lace bustier, short black skirt, black stockings, and little boots. She'd wear it to work and torment me, once putting her booted foot up on my desk and saying, "Maybe I should strap a dagger to the inside of my thigh, here..."

Sigh. I miss my beautiful ex-boss.

Samurai for battle
Ninja for revenge if we lost
And pirates to party with if we won!

Ninjas.

Stealthy and resourceful. A great blend of intellectual prowess and physical aptitude.

Ninjas were the biggest badasses on the planet. Who does'nt want to dress up in a black jumpsuit and assasinate the local Daimyo? Or sneak up on unsuspecting fools in the dark and cut their throats with your ninja sword? Imagine the thrill that you would get when you slice up some sentry with 18 shurikens! Or the excitement of sneaking into a heavily fortified castle! Can you picture yourself striking out from the shadows to disembowl your victims?

Samurai's have to follow the burdensome Bushido code while Pirates can only attack ships or coastal communities. Ninjas can attack anywhere!

Actually the ninja had there own strict coe of honor which required their death before they revealed either employer, methods etc.

Samurai didn't follow many of the stict codes of what we think of as Bushido till after the unification of Japan when the samurai became more administartor/duelist than warrior/general.

Bushido is really a term popularized by a rapidly modernizing Japan at the turn of the 20th century looking to mix its past with the methods they were adopting from the West. In point of fact at that tme most of the army and many of those in the government were of former peasant stock who adopted the ways of the Samurai families that they had reduced if not deposed.

Since trade in pre-internal combustion engine days was most easily accomplished by water transport, most wealth that was transportable (ie not land title) was easy pickings for waterborne raiders.

Arrr, pirates were wealthier than any of the others, and wealth is the only measure of true power!

Plus, seeing as I come from primarily European stock, I feel obligated to support my home team against foreigners.
