Default The balancing act.

Suppose [the Christian] God were trying to balance a pencil on end. Could he do it without having to adjust the pencil from time to time?

I ask this question because it seems as though the Bible is full of instances in which God has to intervene and fix shit. He killed everyone with the flood, he slaughtered children, he sent Jesus... I mean, if he's going to try to fix shit, why not just make it perfect if he can? If he's going to give us free will, why not just leave us to our own devices?

It seems to me that a God who has to periodically catch the falling pencil isn't much of a God at all.

The Christian God has no reason for pencils, He writes with his fingers

Quote:
Linus VanPelt: The Bible tells us that the finger of God wrote the 10 Commandments on two stone tablets (Ex 31:18). These laws were not only for the wandering Jews in the desert in the days of Moses, they have been the basis of every society which has been founded on the Christian faith since that time.
As a matter of fact God does everything with his hands and fingers

With His finger He wrote the Bible. It is not the work of man because how could more than 40 different human authors write such integrated messages over the course of many centuries? God wrote it using His Holy Spirit to guide the thoughts and pens of these authors.

But after Jesus' death and resurrection, the finger of God has penned His signature of love on the hearts of those who love Him (2 Cor 3:3). When His Holy Spirit comes to live within the heart of a person, this Spirit teaches us how to live because His Spirit tells us how to keep the 10 Commandments by loving God and loving others. This new law of love is called "grace" because only by the grace and mercy of God can we be saved from our sins (Rom 3 23-24).

The finger of God casts our devils. Indeed when Christians can cast out devils with the finger of God, they are members of His kingdom (Luke 11:20). The finger is God's Holy Spirit!

The finger of God not only created the world (Ps 8:3), but the same finger writes righteous judgment on evil. The Bible tells us in Daniel chapter 5 that the fingers of God wrote a message of judgment against Babylon on the wall as the king and 1,000 of his lords celebrated at a drunken party worshiping their gods. Daniel was the only one who could interpret what was written, and the message was fulfilled that very night when the king was slain and the Medes and Persians overthrew his kingdom.

When the Pharisees wanted to stone to death a woman taken in adultery, Jesus simply wrote with his finger in the sand a message of judgment, asking which of them was without sin, and they all disappeared. His finger which wrote in the sand was a conviction of God's Holy Spirit on their hearts, and they had no answer (John 8:3-11).
Good grief! What the hell are you going to be this year for Halloween Charles, not that stupid bed sheet with holes cut in it, I guess you can tell your school it isn't evil, your the Holy Spirit..

Actually you are wrong, it wasn't a message, but simply Baby Jesus' first finger painting, Katholics believe the Virgin Mary had it cut out and put it on Her refrigerator.

Rabbi Jerome Lester Horwitz:'This is how you are to make it' - it teaches that God pointed out to Noah with His finger, and told him 'like this you shall make'. Tanya: R. Ishmael said: five fingers in the right hand of God - all are a great secret; the little finger - with it God showed Noah what to do, as it is written 'This is how you are to make it' (Gen 6:15). The second finger, next to the little, with it God smote the Egyptians, as is written 'And the magicians said to Pharaoh: "This is the finger of God"' (Exod 8:19). The third finger, the middle one, with it God wrote the tablets, as is written 'tables of stone, written with the finger of God' (Exod 31:18). The fourth finger, the index, with it God showed Moses what Israel should give to save their souls, as is written 'Each who is numbered in the census shall give this' (Exod 30:13). And the whole hand, with it the Lord will ruin the children of Esau that are His foes, and to destruct the children of Ishmael that are His enemies, as is written 'Your hand shall be lifted up over your adversaries' (Mic 5:9), and it is written 'In that day the Lord will extend his hand yet a second time'
Are you talking behind my back, Rabbi?

Sister Mary Alophont: As Jesus hung upon the cross, dying for your sins, in His last breath He cried
in a loud voice, ‘Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?’ which means, ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me ?’ Matthew 27:46 Many scholars believe [although it is not in any modern Bible scriptures] that God held up His digitus secundus, digitus medius, digitus annularis and proclaimed "Ha leggeto tra le linee!"
