That was one thing that struck me; also that when first written down the story was pretty much complete, which suggests much telling and retelling over time with various accretions such as Peeping Tom during the process. It all seems so reminiscent of the gospels.
Peeping Tom IIUC is a much later addition (probably after 1500)
Also the Gospels are usually dated substantially less than a hundred years after the events to which they refer.

I strongly suspect that no gospels were written until after Paul was dead. And I see no reason to suppose they were written less than (approx) 100 years after his death.
