But, surely you don't expect anyone to find a man reasonably similar to Jesus of the NT.

What kind of man would that be? A God/MAN!

Of course the name Jesus can be found.

But of the all the persons called Jesus in Josephus there is none like him, Son of God born of a Virgin and the Holy Ghost.

By the way, it is very amusing and hilarious when people look for a man similar to Jesus in the very books about Jesus.

I would have thought they would have looked in some other book. I mean there is only one God/man Jesus in the Jesus book.

Is There Evidence For Mythicism?

The ongoing conversation has shown yet another parallel between mythicism and creationism.

This McGrath fellow appears to be nothing more than another liberal Christian baby still trying to hold on to his saviors unraveling robe.
And just like the rest of them, he spastically lashes out at anything that threatens what's left.

Growing up can be painful.

I take it that you are a conservative Skeptic adult. ;-)

Actually, I take McGrath's position to best represent the maturity of an intellectual of religion. The typical progression of such a life is like so:
  1. Strong religious faith
  2. Doubt and liberalism
  3. Strong opposition
  4. Reasonable balance
I think many of us are hung-up on the third step. We believe unlikely conclusions for the sake of strong opposition to Christianity. McGrath is not some lightweight with a blog like Neil Godfrey or any of us. He is a professor of religion.

And there are no professors of religion in any of your other categories?

I didn't imply that.

The implication being that someone who's a professor of religion is someone we have no right arguing with. So why would we be wrong opposing a professor of religion in your first category but not your last?

It is great to argue with him. You have every right to do so, and I encourage it. And, I love it that he is engaging the mythicists rather than just dismissing them. Fenton Mulley said, "This McGrath fellow appears to be nothing more than another liberal Christian baby still trying to hold on to his saviors unraveling robe. And just like the rest of them, he spastically lashes out at anything that threatens what's left. Growing up can be painful." My rebuttal was to that sentiment. We are the babies, not professors of religion, especially not this one.
