I'll be happy enough as soon as Christians are regarded in the same way as the
Flat Earth Society. |

I think an important thing to remember is that those ancient religions didn't simply die out on their own. They were replaced by other religions, and the most successful in pushing out the others still exist today. As long as people have natural religious inclinations, I believe religion will exist in one form or another until the end of time, even if the majority become secularists because of the progress of science.

I'm not so sure Christianity will die. It's too hard to get it out of people's brains once it's really taken hold, and I think it gives the same evolutionary advantage to people that the peacock's tail gives to the peacock.
But, supposing I'm wrong and it is dying, I can't help but wonder what is the single best way to speed up this process... |

My response sounds like a certain shampoo commercial.
It won't happen overnight but it will happen. ![]() |

You can argue that religion, because the claims it makes are (when you eventually back it into a corner) unfalsifiable, and because the perpetrators generally actually believe the claims, does not qualify as a fraud, and so that makes it "ok." I happen to think that religion is a fraud, and a generally harmful one, and I'm against harmful frauds, and the fact that the victims/perpetrators of the fraud don't see themselves as victims or perpetrators does not mean that they aren't. I don't advocate getting rid of theists (the converse of your words, "eliminate the heatens") only getting rid of theism, by (somehow) convincing people that religion is the load of crap it is. Just tired of living in this lunatic asylum called earth. Fucking wake up and become sane already, dipshits. </rant.> |

The Catholic Church is the longest surviving institution on Earth.
I don't think you will see the end of Christianity anytime soon. Generally, its vehement opponents can only get some of the facts right anyway. There is constant confusing between supernaturalism, superstition and religion. DC |
