Default An Introduction

Hello all,
I have been lurking for a few months now. I just recently decided to start contributing to this wonderful community.

A little history...
My mother's side of the family is Jewish (reform) and my father's side is Catholic. I spent K - 6 in a "Jewish Day School". It was basically like any other religios grade school... minus the Jesus part.

On second thought...
I think I'll skip all the history. Let's just say that there where several marriages and remarriages between my parents and other willing parties, I went to a Catholic high school, I graduated from college, got a job, got married, and then posted this message.

Why am I here?
I recently started thinking about religion. I had always gone through the motions, but had never given it an ounce of thought. Once I started thinking I quickly realized that I don't believe a word of what has been shoved down my throat for years.

I have been married for a little over a year now. My wife is a practicing Catholic. We were married at her church (in front of God and everybody). She knows about my current views. She won't call me an atheist. I think the word scares her a little. All and all, she has been supportive. She has a pretty open mind.

The rambling stops here...
I just wanted to post a little info about myself. I look forward to many conversations in the future.

Hi and welcome to the boards!

Don't let the current trend of porn and sex threads scare you. Despite how it looks, we're not all perverts here.

Welcome to the board. A healthy board is the richer for the odd deviated prevert around.

Aha, a former Apatheist. My theory is that about 80% of people claiming to believe in God actually fall into that category, and if they'd actually think about it instead of mindlessly believe their indoctrination, they'd give it up. Ok, maybe 50%, but still a large percentage...

So before you gave it up, did you consider yourself Jewish, Catholic, or other? Jew for Christ maybe?

Welcome to IIDB! Hope you stay a while.

Actually, I'd say the sex threads are more or less a constant thing, but I think we're nice people for all that.

Thanks for making me feel welcome everyone. I've been lurking for a while and really enjoy the sex threads. I have had to consult the Urban Dictionary a few times for terminology clarificaion though.

I agree with your theory that a high percentage of people just haven't really thought about.

Before giving it up I considered myself a Jew (in name only). I went to temple twice a year at most. I was never religous, even with the years I spent in school. I think I always had some doubt in the back of my mind.

Thanks again for the welcome guys!

Intro due here too! I was raised very religious. My Granddad was S.Methodist, my Granny, Roman Catholic. I was baptized Lutheran. My mother was Lutheran,Mormon, Catholic, Pentecostal, (not at ONCE!). My maternal grandparents, Unity Church. Weird. I've joined cults, churches, read a lot on my own. My dad is Catholic as is my fiancé and her family, but she's not strict. I kinda have an agnostic position at this time. This board is a breath of fresh air, with new, sometimes too challenging ideas. My favorite college class was philosophy of religion, while playing in a working rock band at night.

The sex question was funnier than hell! I answered but don't look at my post!!

Hi Double J. How about a quick summary on the difference between reform, conservative and orthodox Judaism?
