People who move really slowly in general - but are not cognizant of/courteous toward those around them. I.E., people ambling along oh-so-casually three or four abreast on a sidewalk/corridor/etc... people who stroll through parking lots in the middle of the road instead of off to the side when you are trying to park... people who slow down to 5 mph while craning to look for an address (instead of pulling to the side and letting the cars behind them pass through).

Try as I might I can not even hide my natural prejudicial instincts. I do not wish to be seated in a restaurant, movie theatre or any other public or even semi-public place near these creepy people. I would never knowingly invite any of these people into my home
And yet this prejudice has often made my life very difficult, for they are probably one of the largest groups on the planet and they are everywhere. There are whole bloody families of these people.

These people whom I can not stand are all the fugging bigots everywhere and they seem to breed like rats.

Do us both a favour and stay out of my sight. You make me ill

If I see you lying by the side of the road or whatevr I will help you, but please do not say thanks because I don't want thanks from you.

I have a marginally justifiable mistrust of middle-aged white men. I'm not just saying that to be all PC or anything, either. I have had far too many negative experiences with that demographic to prevent myself from just keeping a little closer eye on them, particularly if I'm working with them. They're also on my 'watch list' of highway drivers. (Which also includes anyone in business attire, teenagers, and people driving VWs, to name just a few.)

But my middle-aged white guy thing even bleeds over into the backhanded compliment. You know how some people make a point of calling black people 'articulate,' and a credit to their race? I kind of do the same thing sometimes. I give middle-aged white guys extra credit simply for not being greedy, stupid assholes. And that's where I think I'm just being unfair. It's similar to the virtual deification of single fathers. Single dads tend to be held up as Brave Heroes much more so than single moms, based on the presumption that men are innately selfish or something. Giving a MEWG credit for NOT lying or behaving irresponsibly is just holding them to a lower standard, and I should really really stop doing that.

I swear, though, I'm not a bigot or anything. Some of my best friends are middle-aged white guys.

Serious.

It seems that to have a "prejudice" is looked upon as a bad thing in society. But, how is it inherently bad? If a certain group of people generally share characteristics that drive you mad, how is it wrong to overall dislike them and want to avoid them? As long as you don't harm them, and are still otherwise willing to help them in times of need, I don't see the inherent immorality.
I think it's the inherent risk of prejudgement prior to information...that can lead to all sorts of bad bad things. Like the dehumanization of ethnic or religious groups. You can all imagine where i'm going with this, so it probably doesn't need to be said.

But still, I find I have to force myself to curb my conditioned judgementalism and discomfort with certian individuals based on some character traits. I think I wind up being more disgusted with certain categories of people when they turn out to fit my stereotype/prejudice even better than I would have imagined.

Actually, so do I. Being born and raised in NC, this can be something of a problem. My own accent is very neutral, and no one has ever pegged me as a Southerner based solely on my speech patterns. I tend to judge unfairly those with strong southern accents. I've tried to figure out why. Neither of my parents have particularly strong accents, and very few people in my family do, but I did grow up in the middle of a lot of accents. I think it has something to do with my ongoing rejection of the town in which I grew up and the culture that it represents.

On that note, I'm prejudiced against New Jersey drivers. I swear none of these people understand the concept of passing, travel, and slow vehicle lanes when traveling on a highway. Listen New Jerseyites, if you're not going faster than the people in the lane to your right, you should get the hell out of the lane and let the line of 30 cars behind you go by. Yes, I know people from other states are very guilty of this too, but I encounter it much more in New Jersey than any other state I've driven in.

I have a prejudice against obese people who don't bother to lose weight or at least cover up. The church that my mother attends is chock full of them. Jiggling fat and cellulite do not make my day. :banghead:

I also have a prejudice against Christians. I sincerely apologize if that offends some people but I can't help but feel very contemptuous and distrustful of people who would work to relegate folk like me to second-class citizenship.

Straight guys irk me too. Most of them are not comfortable in their heterosexuality because they always deem the slightest wavering in their masculinity as "gay".

Not that I'm gay or anything, but I know what you mean.

Fat people who try to justify their weight!

I'm sure you know what I'm talking about, O ye bastards of yon arse that is like Trent Bridge (but a little bigger in some cases)

I've tried dieting! OK, working in a supermarket, ten bags of crisps, 12 pizzas and 8 bottles of coke (all large) with a can of diet pepsi shoved in does not count as dieting.!

You know why you are fat. Socrates may have described it as akrasia, but the simple truth is,

the mouth hole is bigger than the arsehole! And there are many oversized arseholes who refuse to accept that!

Also old people who think their gods then have a go at everyone. What really annoys me is,

'You punk kids. You don't know how lucky you are!'

How do you know one of those punk kids isn't a cancer sufferer?!

Oh, and people who just will not accept that their argument is not any good, then get their mates to support them.

'Prove God doesn't exist

Well, you say we can't see God. (Actually, no I didn't, but I haven't seen Him) but, can you see the mind?

A Boeing 747 doesn't create itself, so evolution must be false

You don't know what you're talking about: you're agnostic

Such assertions, an applause they are not worthy of!

I have prejudices against both the parent and the child when it comes to kids acting disrespectful, over hyper or unreasonably insane in public. I've just always had that only child image and life of being calm and listening a lot and I have come to despise the supposed "a.d.d." types of children and even people out there that act in a manner that is, what I see as unneeded.

I used to have problems with Southern Accented people, but after living in the south for a few years and seeing most of my teachers with it, I came to ignore that prejudice. I still have trouble finding urban slang and dialect to be held by smart people, I tend to always think of them even if they're intelligent as not because of how they speak.
